Qatar British Business Forum Hosts Freshers' Fair at the British Embassy
Over 450 expatriates attended a "Freshers' Fair" organised by the Qatar British Business Forum (QBBF) at the British Embassy on Saturday 20th September.
The 3-hour long fair, the first of its kind and the largest event organised by the QBBF, gave expatriates, particularly those new to Doha, the chance to view a range of activities and services offered for the British community in and around Doha.
A wide range of organisations such as schools, nurseries, sports and social clubs and children's groups took part in the event, offering information on their association and giving attendees the opportunity to become involved. British Guides in Foreign Countries (BGIFC) kindly provided a space for childrens' activities including face painting and football.
Bob Muir, QBBF Chairman, said: "I am delighted at the outcome of the event, which helped introduce newcomers to Qatar to the activities of all the different clubs, societies and organisations. The Fair was not only a fun day, but an outstanding success, thanks to the efforts of all the participants and especially to Her Majesty's Ambassador for allowing the event to take place at the British Embassy."
Ambassador John Hawkins was delighted that the Embassy could host the event, saying: "Like many people here today, I am a newcomer to Doha and have been impressed to see the diverse range of activities the British community is involved in. The Embassy is always pleased to support community activities and so jumped at the chance to work with the QBBF on this successful event."
Organisations with stalls at the event: Doha English Speaking School, Doha College, Starfish Lane Kids Nursery, Apple Tree Nursery, Doha Golf Club, Doha Rugby Club, Regatta Sailing, Blokarting, Doha Players, British Guides in Foreign Countries, Boy Scouts, H2O Swimming Club, Doha Community Orchestra, Doha Sub Aqua Club, Doha Singers, Silver Dhow Association, Marhaba, Caledonian Society, Anglican Church, Garveys European Social Club, British Embassy, British Council, Dr Sarah's Specialist Dental Centre, The Veterinary Surgery, Al Samariyah Stables, Evolution Football Club and Doha Hockey Club.
